Modern technology is supposed to make life easier and free up time to do some of the things we really want to do. Somehow, it seems to have the opposite effect in many instances.
With a click of our fingers, we can talk to someone miles away but often, voice mail has replaced the person we seek. We can chose to send an e-card with little effort, but lack of thought or feelings are involved. Thus far, nothing has replaced the comfort of sending or receiving greeting cards.
The oldest known greeting card is a hand written Valentine made in the 1400’s, presently on display in the British Museum. Written Valentines were in vogue then. In the 1800’s Esther Howland, an American printer and artist became famous for her beautiful cards created with lace and ribbons. John Calcott Horsley introduced and popularized the Christmas greeting card in 1843. Ellen H. Clapsaddle’s postcard and greeting card artwork was published in 1906 and are among the most valuable and collectable cards today (many are valued at over $200.00 each). John Calcott Horsley introduced and popularized the Christmas greeting card.
Today, the exchange of greeting cards is popular for just about any occasion or reason imaginable. E-cards have made little impact on the industry. They are a fast way to access a recipient but are unemotional. You can’t have and hold an e-card; it is like a fleeting thought. The lack of emotion filled messages can only be satisfied with a personal touch. Interpersonal relationships need an intimacy unfulfilled by impersonal technology.
Camelot cards were developed with this in mind. They form a communion with nature, so to speak, in preserving summer’s beauty throughout the year. Flowers in full bloom are gathered at their peak and carefully pressed. After a thorough drying process, they are used in decorating greeting cards, each individually designed by hand and carefully laminated for protection. Cards for any occasion can be provided with the proper selection of colors and shapes of flowers adorning it.
Many of them are framed and kept as keepsakes by their recipients because of their beauty. CAMELOT CARDS can say it all…. with sincerity.
